Memorial Service for Chuck Hanna Saturday, May 25 the Dog River Library will be the location for a memorial service and dedication of a garden area and flag pole in the memory of longtime Sweetwater District Scout Leader, Charles "Chuck" Hanna, who passed away last October. Mr. Hanna was a Cub Scout leader in the District for many years, guiding countless boys and young men in their growth and enjoyment of the Scouting program as well as many years involvement is girls softball within Douglas County and beyond. The service will begin at 10:00 am on the 25th and is open to everyone. The library will be closed but there will be restroom facilities. Please join us for this important event as we pay respect to a longtime friend to Scouts, both old and young, and so many others whose lives were touched by his life. Sweetwater 2013 Twilight Camp Calling all Cub scouts and Cub leaders, it's time to make plans for the 2013 Sweetwater District Twilight Camp. Scheduled for the week of June 10 - 14, this year will be bigger than ever. All Cub scouts from brand new Tigers to rising Webelos II Scouts will participate in a Space Adventure theme with activities like BB's & Archery, volleyball, basketball and kickball, building model rockets and space shuttles, arts and crafts, building marshmallow shooters and many more. Fraker via email. Fairburn Scout Shop "Get Ready for Camp" Event Coming May 11 the Fairburn Scout Shop will be holding a “Get Ready for Camp”event. There will be various events and demonstrations, including first aid, dutch oven cooking, knots, hiking, camp site setup and the always popular Blast Car Racing! This is going to be a great time for all attending. Scouts of all ages attend camp of some sort so bring your family, your Pack or Troop and have some fun learning various Scout skills and activities. First Aid and CPR Training Sweetwater Scouters, we have a great opportunity coming May 18. The District will be offering First Aid Training, including CPR certification and training on defibrillator systems. This training is usually only offered at the Council level but we will be offering it within the District. The cost for the training is $15 per person. The fee is waived for all those volunteering for Twilight Camp. This is incredibly important training that you do not want to miss out on. While everyone hopes that this is the training that will never be used, should you ever be needed, are you prepared to save a life if called upon. Campout Call to Action All the fun and memories of a National Jamboree right in your own backyard. That's whats in store at the Campout Call to Action, being held May 17 - 19. Flashlight Hike at Clinton Volunteer Opportunities June 22, the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a Mother and Son flashlight hike at Clinton Nature Preserve. The county has requested the assistance of Boy Scout Troops in the setting up of events. This is a great recruiting opportunity as well as a possibility for service hours.
