Douglas County in west Georgia. The
District serves all ages of Scouts from
all backgrounds. Scouting programs
include Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts,
Venturing and Varsity Scouts. There is
something for all boys, beginning from
the first grade up to 20 years.

Register Units Now For Scouting for Food
Unit leaders, the deadline for commitment for Scouting for Food is next Thursday, January 26th. Christmas is not the
only time that people are without food. It is a year round need and this is a great way to give back to the community
and help those in need. Please contact the District Scouting for Food Chair, Kim Blume with your unit's contact
information or register online at www.atlantabsa.org.

By popular request, the 37th College of Commissioner Science will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012, as a one-
day event, packed with training and networking opportunities that will benefit all commissioners. For more

Spring Camporee Registration is Online
It's that time again! Boy Scouts and Leaders, start making you plans now for the Spring 2012 Camporee. This year's
theme is Wilderness Survival and is going to be great! Camporee will be held is a completely new location this year,
Griffin Farm in Carrollton. Games and Wilderness skills will be featured as the Scouts work towards their Wilderness
Survival Merit Badges. Follow this link to the registration and information page and get ready for the best Camporee
ever!
Sweetwater District Awards Banquet
Reservations are now being taken for the Sweetwater District Awards Banquet, coming February 16 to Dorsett
Shoals Baptist Church. All adult Scouters are invited to join us in what will be a great party celebrating a year of fun
and accomplishments. The theme for the party is "Mardi Gras", complete with a Louisiana inspired menu and events.
Tickets will be available at the January Roundtable or by following this link to the information page. We'll have door
prizes and lots of fun and take time to recognize leaders in the District who have served the Scouts so well. Some of
the awards include the Scout Spirit, Shining Light, Scouting Family and many others as well as the District Award of
Merit, the highest award available at the District level.

This party is not just about awards. It's about getting together and having a great time with fellow Scouters. We hope
to see you there and celebrate 2011 and look forward to 2012.
Scoutmaster/ASM Leader Training
Be prepared for 2012 and beyond by completing required Boy Scout Leader Training, being held Saturday, February
25. This course is ideal for existing leaders in need of required training as well as current Webelos leaders that will be
moving up. This is the indoor only portion and will be offered in a single day format. Outdoor training (ITOLS) will be
available in future dates, including March 30 - April 1. Registration is now available online.
Plan Now For The First Ever Cub-o-Ree
Cub Scouts, watch out for it! The first ever Sweetwater District Cub-o-Ree is coming! The theme for this great
event is “The Path of the Mountain Man”. Scheduled for April 20 - 22 at Bert Adams Scout Reservation, this will be an
event you do not want to miss. BBs, archery, field games and Webelos specific events are just a few of the things on
the slate. But make your plans now and get set because space is limited. Information is available by following this link

Order of the Arrow Elections Coming Soon
The time has come once again where we are asking unit leaders to schedule unit elections for membership into the
Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America. Unit elections for Boy Scout Troops
and Varsity Scout Teams in the Sweetwater District must be completed by Saturday, February 11th. Please follow this

Scouter's Academy
Saturday, January 28 please make plans to attend the Atlanta Area Council's Scouter's Academy. Everyone is invited to
attend and pick up skills that will hep us lead our Scouts and manage a great program. Classes include courses in
Venturing, Boy Scout and Cub Scout leadership, ideas for making your meetings more exciting, backpack cooking,
Whittling Chip teaching techniques, conservation and much more.
And, this year classes are being offered to Boy Scouts, including the new Junior Leader Training course, Chaplain Aide
and Den Chief training.
Cost is $20 which includes registration, Academy T shirt and patch. Food will be available at an additional charge. For
